I have done only minimal searching to find out how and what is used to get setup to use the guitar and computer to search and create sounds..As in how is a guitar run into a computer,as in is there a port(ing) system or ? I am a big fan of Richard Z K, guitarist for Rammstein, his sound it huge as in majorly chunky rhythms, and he and a company came out with Rammfire, and I have seen a few videos and it looks fairly easy to use and even some of the factory presets sound thick and grindy..the Rammfire sells for $50 and I am thinking about checking it out in the very near future. .I saw the system requirements for the computer, and my computer will work, but I don't want to have to buy all kinds of extra pieces just to mess around with the Rammfire. .just basics to get going. Jarrod I have read you are using maybe nothing like this but basically using your computer setup for certain sounds, if you have any info that would be awesome! And anybody else same to you, Thanks for any info on this subject!

I had picked up a m-audio fast track on reverb for about 5 bucks and it works for what I want it to! Honestly all you need is a simple interface t get that guitar signal from a analog signal, to a digital one.

The problem with all of them is rather in the hardware. The inputs on your PC or also most external interfaces simply don't behave like a guitar preamp and will never sound like the real amp that was simulated. Specifically the dynamic range and compression are way off and LOTS of tweaking is needed for the input signal even with Hi-Z inputs, provided the software has the right options to begin with.
That being said, my favorite regarding the sound is still Peavey ReValver, or TwoNotes Torpedo for pure poweramp/box simulation. I use a real preamp in front of the PC though, just power amp/speaker sim used in the software. The current tech simply can not beat a real preamp yet, maybe in 1-2 decades it will be able to.
All IMO of course...

Torpedo is a fantastic product and the company is 500m from my house!

Cool, I'd go over and ask to become a beta tester if I were you...
@ moshpit - try it only if it's at least version 3.5. Upgrade from version 3 to v4 is about $50 but well worth it, if only for the new and improved speakersims and the triple XXX head.
The torpedo "Wall of Sound" software is free and you just buy the cabs you need individually, they cost just a few bucks each.

Just need to get my ass there to test their new preamps.

I too have been purchasing and getting thru other products, I have a Love/hate relationship with software sims. I have PV revalver, TH3, addictive drums, EZdrummer, and used an XTLive for years direct to FOH. having put them to the side for a bit. recording a Great guitar sound is becoming a lost art. guy on youtube with sims has no real sm57's, C414's, no ribbons, no 609' no cheap ass mic that could be the New You sound. I mean can you put a NT1a on the back of an openback cab with PV revalver? how about a PR30 in the front? dont get me started with acoustic guitar. yeah your piezo sounds sooo natural. but they do have their place

With all the playing around and tweaking I've made to these vst effects and simulators, I think I'm happy to say I've finally found a tone that is mine, one that sounds absolutely perfect for me and how I play; combination of some Lynch, Van Halen, Malmsteen, and just the best of the 80s tones all combined into one... It can be dirty and full of effects, or I can turn off some of those effects and just rock out unchained.... all at the single click of a mouse button!

I use my preamps/amps in the front and just simulate the speaker/mic, so it sounds very natural. As for the drums, you need the right sim and lots of work to make it sound right. Actually there the MIDI file you program for the drums input is the most important part, it must be hand-tailored and that takes some 10-20h per song.
